Less known than Cabo San Lucas, but much more authentic, the little gem of ´La Paz´can be found on the Peninsula of Baja California Sur.
Featuring a desert climate, La Paz offers a dry, warm and sunny weather most of the year and there are plenty of activities to choose from.
Of course, the beaches are famous, but the quaint city, as well as the surrounding mountains, offer fun attractions for everyone.
Popular attractions, which are not to be missed are taking a walk on the Malecon, a boat excursion to Espiritu Santo Island, sea kayaking, a visit to the cathedral and the historical centre. Snorkelling with the whale sharks or sea lions is a must-do between November and March.

No, you do not need to be a resident to buy real estate in Mexico.
It is perfectly legal for foreigners to buy and own Mexican real estate. Beyond the process of setting up a bank trust (fideicomiso), buying property in Mexico as an American, Canadian or European is fairly straightforward.
Mexican property taxes are referred to as “impuestos predial” and can vary per situation. When you receive your title papers from the notary, there should be a receipt for the last paid impuesto predial at the time of transfer. These taxes are low but you should get caught up. There are discounts for “fast pay” in December and January. Cutoff to avoid being late is usually around March 1st.
At the moment there is no website or notification system in place.
La Paz is a coastal Mexican town with a small, but growing foreign community. La Paz is more a Mexican city than an expat’s haven, but for those who love magnificent seaside sunsets, sugary beaches, sailing, diving and the ability to stretch a retirement dollar, La Paz is a superb choice.
For sure in areas where there are foreigners, you can get by with “English only”. But knowing a few words of Spanish is preferred.
Yes, it is indeed a safe place as much as the rest of Baja California. However, normal crime and petty theft can occur, like anywhere else in the world. So usual common sense is required.
